A keen illustrator of varied merchandise and children's picture books, Betty is one of the co-ordinators of the NZSA's Children's Literature Hub in Christchurch.

Betty works does watercolour painting, coloured pencil artworks and various kinds of embroidery.
Betty is a self-taught artist, who attributes her love of art to her parents, who are both skilled in multiple art forms. Her mother is a talented pyrographer and painter; and her father has created stunning copper and pewter pictures. Two of her grandparents were potters.

She also enjoys various forms of needlework, especially embroidery and knitting. She loves tutoring people with learning disabilities, and teaches adults and children cognitive drawing, watercolour painting and embroidery classes. She also writes a monthly blog about her illustration journey.
Betty is inspired by colour, nature and history, especially by the fascinating wildlife and the beautiful countryside of New Zealand. She is passionate about creating wildlife artwork of threatened/endangered and rare species from around the world, especially lesser known species which need more publicity.
Her favourite media are watercolour, coloured pencil and embroidery.
